Addition of Lead (Pb)-Nitrate Filler on Polymer Composite Aprons for X-Ray Radiation Shielding

Radiation shield ing aprons are needed by radiation workers to minimize exposure the body. The apron s at present use fabric-coated lead plates which heavy and rigid materials therefore not comfortable use. Polymer from cassava starch glycerin with addition of Pb- nitrate filler 0 %, 2 4 6 % have been synthesized. Mixtures for synthesizing polymer composites were heated using a magnetic stirrer speed 800 rpm 160 °C 25 minutes. Then, dried in an oven 24 hours 70 °C. effectiveness was determined calculating attenuation coefficient ( μ ), half-value layer (HVL), absorption. mechanical properties characterized testing their tensile strengths A&D MCT-2150 universal tester. result shows that optimal as much produced 1248 cm ‑1 , HVL 0.54 cm, absorption while aprons’ strength obtained 28.244 MPa. T he Pb-nitrate proportionally improves quality used shields. More detailed research is still obtain best apron. Emerging technology for shielding of electromagnetic radiation using composite materials

This study indicated that multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)-epoxy composites can be used as effective lightweight shielding materials. The measurement results showed that highest EMI SE of 23.4 dB at 8 GHz was obtained for nanocomposite with 1 wt% MWCNTs.
